O Jesus my Savior, my song in the night

A profound message about the Spirit of Christ awaits you in this unusual new video produced with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Set against the haunting lyrics of an old folk hymn, we see images from our own day giving testimony to the wisdom that says, “Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.”  (Eccl 11:1).

The messaging occurs at several levels, so find a quiet moment and watch carefully.

MY SONG IN THE NIGHT
American Folk Hymn

O Jesus my Savior, my song in the night,
Come to us with Thy tender love, my soul’s delight.
Unto Thee, O Lord, in affliction I call,
My comfort by day, and my song in the night.

O why should I wander, an alien from Thee,
Or cry in the desert Thy face to see?
My comfort and joy, my soul’s delight,
O Jesus my Savior, my song in the night.

O Jesus my Savior, my song in the night.
Come to us with Thy tender love, my soul’s delight.
My comfort and joy, my soul’s delight,
O Jesus my Savior, my song in the night.

The text of this hymn seems to take inspiration from these passages from the Old Testament:

  • I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with my own heart, and my spirit made diligent search.”- Psalm 77:6
  • Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night?” – Job 35:10

Worthwhile thoughts about this hymn, and about hymns in general, have been shared by another web logger, Mormon Soprano, at her blog site.
